PostSubject: Too many mods that do nothing. Sort it out.   Too many mods that do nothing. Sort it out. EmptyMon Nov 21, 2011 2:32 pm

So I'm gathering this is luiishu's first forum. I would like to mention swiftly a list of problems here that need rectifying.

1. Cut down the amount of mods. We don't need this many in such a small community. (Maximum should be 4.) Most of the community here is decent so we don't need oceans of them.

2. 80% of the mods on this forum have no powers. At all. How do I know this? When you check the forum index, it says 'this forum is led by:'. No-one is being assigned to moderate threads. This means we have many moderators that have NO POWERS AT ALL. They can't edit, they can't merge, they can't sticky, they can't delete.

For example, Leonheart was hired as a graphics moderator yet he can do NOTHING in the RM Resources section. Don't believe me? Check the index page and you'll see the listed 'moderators' are Zachfoss, VVBlastFuryVV.
If the admin can't be bothered to change it; then there is NO POINT hiring people.

Just stop hiring people. In fact, if you can't be bothered to instate the powers correctly; just remove them as you can't moderate without any powers to do so.

Alot of people are getting tierd of this so change this fast! Start listening to us, since we make your community.

/rantover.

EDIT: Just to clarify my experience on this matter; I work under a giant server network called Ninygo Network and actually handle my own forum there for one of the games. Prior to that, I've run several forums, both the free type and license-based ones; so I know exactly what I'm on about.

My only issue is that the moderators are not trused enough, They don't have enough power to do said things resulting in the high quantity of moderators in the forum.
Luishu doesn't trust some of the people on this forum to help him that is understandable, however I do think it is time that he did trust some of us giving us more powers. If he gave a few mods such as 4 moderators with responsibilities spread across different catergories of the forum for example 'RPG Maker Projects', 'RPG Maker General', "RPG Maker Resources" and
'Non RPG Maker'

On top of that there are several issues with the contest purely because the contest people in charge are starting to add Judges this is an awful way to make sure that the contests are judged 'fairly'. I am against anyways that will be un-beneficial to members of the forum or will cause anger/distress.

If these issues on the forum aren't tackled soon people will begin to just get annoyed It is better to learn via mistakes then just ignore this and continue how we have been going about it. On top of this I know that it is my fault because I should of pmed liu regarding the said issues sooner and for that I can completely apologies.

Currently I feel I am un-needed as a mod and therefore have resigned. I will continue to assist people if they need to but will no longer be able to work for Liushu or the team are RPG Maker Heaven.

- Thank you.

This would easily be an issue. Since I personally don't come here as much, I guess I didn't realize it. However, this is a pressing matter that 'must' be dealt with. If the head mods need help handling the things stated here then I would assume they should start asking help from the people who clearly have an idea of what they are doing.

Although mods are there to help us and 'maintain' the peace, we are just a small community so we can't have too much of them. If we were a big community of a thousand people, a number of mods like we have now would be necessary. D:
I hope this will be fixed soon, and sorry if people are going to lose their Mod status. ;--;

It is indeed something to worry about. Somewhere I agree with the fact we got a lot of moderators. However as we are a small community we aren't that active yet. Meaning people don't come online a lot. This makes a forum vulnerable in multiple mays. People getting annoyed by the amount of mods that aren't active. Mods getting annoyed by not being able to do anything. With that a certain cycle activates that will kill the forum or community depends what you want to call it. As Kail mentioned before we still lack powers making things for mods more complicated. There are also quite some forum boards making a few general mods put a lot of work on them. Also the fact that luiishu doesnt trust a few people makes it harder. To begin with he shouldnt have hired those people as he doesnt trust them.

PostSubject: Power Too Low, Recruiting Too High   Too many mods that do nothing. Sort it out. EmptyMon Nov 21, 2011 10:34 pm

A Forum with moderators with high power comes with a greater responsibility more corruption and ignorant moderators however if that level of responsibility is spread out equally and fairly in a trusted way among the moderators they will find that all you do really need is at least 3-4 moderators and 1-2 Admin.

The issue I am having is the way the people are hiring the moderators as well. Something I didn't cover in my first post. From my observations I can say that it is very unprofessional. I didn't realise this when I applied to be moderator in fact I decided to write myself a long winded application in a pm to the Site owner Liushu. Then I saw another topic with Verm recruiting members the fact of the matter is that the moderators are lacking the power to do things that will work for the forum.

Lack of power is just as bad as having too much power. The balance of that power is the issue here, No matter though if there is no trust between the owner and the members we are going to have so many problems in the future it will be too rediculous.

Below I will give you some tips for improvements:
1. Let some moderators go. (Maybe hard but some positions may have to be lost, If you
if you think that perhaps it isn't time for you to be a mod then please step down.)
2. Impliment a freaking report system like I sent you. ¬_¬
3. Give the moderators more powers.
Spoiler:
4.Properly train your moderators so that they know how to use the forum or at least hire people who CAN do it. (This also goes back to 1 you can give your moderators a test to see if they're good enough to use the site and navigate it correctly.

I think too be honest you should remove everyones rank and start from scratch, might be a little unfair to some but if you get people to resend proper applications it may just make life a tad bit easier.
Well that is my opinion.

Just because we have too many mods, we don't have to fire some of them. We could spread them out into other areas, like you said.

We already have a report system. It's the ! button on the post's title bar.

I like the warn idea, but I can name about six things that mods can already do. Delete, lock, open, move, split, and open topics. I think that's fairly enough.

Most of the mods we hired stated that they had past experience. And if we do hire newbies, we can always show them the ropes. In fact, I recommend making a "Rookie Mod" rank for the mods that haven't had any past experience. That way, they could learn, and eventually become full mods.

This might be going a little too far. Our staff is already quite organized. Luiishu would have to reassign the ranks, invite everyone back into their usergroups, and assign them their areas all over again.

We have a few issues with the mods here, but we can't just tackle them by firing everyone and re-hiring the best. I'll talk this out with Luiishu and figure out what we're going to do.
